Covid-19 Emergency Assistance Grant for Food and Essential Supplies

The Covid-19 Emergency Assistance Grant for Food and Essential Supplies is to support people who are struggling to afford food and other essentials due to financial hardship caused by Covid-19. This scheme is temporary.

To be eligible for the scheme individuals:

  • must live in Dudley borough
  • must be able to demonstrate that they do not have the resources to provide food, gas or electricity and/or essential household items for themselves or their household as a result of the impact of COVID-19.

Only one grant can be issued per household and is subject to fund availability.

Should the application be successful, a bank account in the individual’s name will be required for the funds to be transferred. In special circumstances, vouchers for items may be able to be provided.

The maximum amount that can be awarded is £300, the amount will depend on the individuals needs and circumstances.


How to Apply

If you are a voluntary sector organisation working with vulnerable people in Dudley borough and you wish to apply for this grant on behalf of a client please download and complete the following application form. Evidence Requirements

In all circumstances an individual will need to provide:

  • proof of identity
  • proof of financial hardship
  • Proof of additional expenses due to Covid-19
  • Proof of a bank account

Types of documents that can be accepted are as follows:

Proof of Identity

  • Full photo driving licence
  • Current passport

If not available, other proof could be provided eg DWP benefit letter, medical card, paper driving licence.

Proof of residence

  • Utility bill (dated within the last month)
  • Council Tax bill (current year)
  • Benefit letter from DWP (current year)
  • Bank Statement (dated within the last month)
  • Signed Tenancy agreement

Exceptions may be made for certain circumstances.

Proof of financial hardship

  • Latest bank statement showing bank account name & sort code
  • Proof of UC claim
  • Proof of HB/CTR claim
  • Disability related benefit
  • Income Support
  • Income related JSA/ESA
  • Proof of other means tested benefit
  • Income/Expenditure analysis
  • Evidence of reduced /loss of income (bank statements/payslips)

Proof of additional expenses due to Covid-19

  • Evidence of increased food bills due to additional household members being at home
  • Evidence of increased energy bill
  • Evidence of increased housing costs
  • Exceptional and unexpected events

Key workers from voluntary organisations supporting their clients to apply for this grant will need to request to see the above documents to ensure the individual meets the criteria. We advise that key workers view all the required evidence at the same time. Photocopies of the documents do not need to be sent to Dudley CVS. A senior manager/project manager from within the voluntary organisation supporting the client to apply will be required to verify that the individual being supported by the key worker does meet the criteria for the grant.


Next steps

Once an application has been approved, Dudley CVS will aim to pay the money into the individuals bank account within 24 hours via BACS, where possible.
